Punjab's Finance Minister, Harpal Singh Cheema, spearheaded a drive to aid flood-affected regions by dispatching ambulances loaded with medical supplies. These services aim to provide free medical check-ups and medicines for 45 days, while serious cases will get referrals to nearby facilities for further care.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Balbir Singh assessed relief work in Fazilka, setting a 45-day recovery target. Singh commended local NGOs for their flood response efforts. In alignment, Punjab's Water Resources Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal expedited the river breach plugging efforts with crucial meetings to address 44 reported breaches, emphasizing resource mobilization and monitoring.
The state grapples with extensive flooding caused by overflow from the Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi rivers, with exacerbated conditions due to rainfall from neighboring Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. Flooding has severely impacted districts such as Gurdaspur, Amritsar, and others, prompting extensive government intervention.
