In an alarming turn of events, the Marathwada region of Maharashtra has been hit by the most intense rainfall in over five decades, according to State Disaster Management Minister Girish Mahajan.
Floods have claimed eight lives, damaged hundreds of homes and roads, and compromised the region's agricultural backbone by washing away the fertile soil layer.
The government is prioritizing rescue operations and assessing damage to deploy necessary relief efforts, as the scale of destruction is extensive, impacting 63.51 lakh acres of agricultural land.
