In a distressing incident in Odisha's Deogarh district, a wild tusker has died from suspected electrocution, marking the second such case this month, officials reported on Wednesday. The sub-adult elephant was discovered lifeless in the Rengalbeda section of the Deogarh Forest Division.

Preliminary investigations suggest the tusker encountered a live wire, allegedly connected by farmers to protect their crops, turning into a deadly trap. Post-mortem examinations will be performed by experts from Bhubaneswar to determine the exact cause of death.

This incident mirrors a previous case on September 12 in Mahasindhu village, where another elephant succumbed to a similar fate. Between April and September 15, seven elephants have died due to electrocution in the region, sparking urgent calls for improved wildlife protection strategies.
