In a significant move to address the chronic waterlogging problems on the Mehrauli-Badarpur Road in South Delhi, the Public Works Department (PWD) has announced plans to overhaul the entire drainage system across the 22-kilometre stretch, officials revealed on Thursday.

The ambitious project, with an estimated cost of Rs 387 crore, is set to be presented at the upcoming Expenditure and Finance Committee (E&FC) meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, for approval. The PWD is also advancing similar drainage upgrades on other critical routes, including the Karala-Kanjhawala road and the notorious Zakhira underpass.

According to a recent status report, significant progress is being made on Rohtak Road, with 11 out of 18 kilometers already completed, with a projected completion date by March 2026. This initiative falls under the broader drainage master plan for Delhi, aimed at eliminating monsoon waterlogging woes and enhancing travel convenience for commuters.
