The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is intensifying efforts to create Heat Action Plans (HAPs) tailored to local needs, aiming to reduce heatwave exposure and enhance thermal comfort, according to NDMA's Head, Krishna Vatsa. These plans address challenges distinct to each city and district.

Speaking at the Global Heat and Cooling Forum (GHCF) 2026, Vatsa highlighted the need for localized solutions, such as water availability, increased vegetation, cool roofs, and shelters. The forum, held in New Delhi and organized with the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), focused on sustainable cooling initiatives.

Vatsa noted the adverse impact of heat on outdoor workers' income, citing ongoing discussions on parametric insurance to address losses. Emphasis was placed on training hospitals for heatwave situations, which has resulted in reduced mortality. The event saw participation from officials like Jitendra Singh and Mrutyunjay Mohapatra.
