Odisha is experiencing a severe heatwave, with at least 17 cities registering temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius. The industrial town of Jharsuguda has been identified as the hottest spot, recording an alarming temperature of 44.1 degrees Celsius, significantly higher than the norm.
Following closely is Titlagarh at 44 degrees, while numerous other towns such as Bolangir, Nuapada, and Sundergarh also face sweltering conditions. Bhubaneswar, the state capital, recorded a high of 36.8 degrees, with Cuttack not far behind at 36.6 degrees. Relative humidity in these cities remains high, exacerbating discomfort levels.
The India Meteorological Department has issued a forecast indicating that hot, humid conditions will likely persist across 15 districts, and warns of thunderstorms with lightning in isolated areas on Sunday.
