The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has reinforced the need for compliance with a Supreme Court directive, ensuring that designated parks in Delhi are not used for events exceeding 10 days monthly. The directive aims to curb unauthorized activities and mismanagement in local parks.
The tribunal's decision followed reports of alleged illegal installations and poor waste management in a district park in Rohini. The Delhi Pollution Control Committee conducted a spot inspection, revealing the park's lack of activity but noting a large heap of solid waste.
The NGT, led by Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava, has urged the Delhi Development Authority and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to address the waste issue and adhere to park usage limitations. This aligns with a 2009 Supreme Court ruling in the M C Mehta case, emphasizing that parks can't be allocated for events for more than 10 days a month.
