Odisha govt launches training programme for lifeguards

The Odisha government has launched a training programme for lifeguards to enhance security of tourists at beaches in various parts of the state, officials said on Tuesday. The training programme kicked off at Odisha State Watermanship And Lifeguard Institute (OSWALI) in Konark on Monday. A total of 176 government and private lifeguards will be trained, they said. The curriculum has been designed to cover critical competencies, including rescue techniques, CPR and first-aid, open water operations, disaster response, tourist safety protocols, and watersports safety standards, the Tourism Department said in a statement. The state government plans to train around 2,000 lifeguards over the next two-three years, the department said. The trained lifeguards will be deployed across key tourist destinations like Puri, Chandrabhaga and other prominent beaches.
