Calling for India to achieve energy self-reliance, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone CEO Ashwani Gupta on Wednesday asserted that in an era of volatile supply chains, business continuity should take precedence over logistical efficiency to ensure uninterrupted trade. Speaking at the Resilient Futures Summit organised by Economist Enterprise, Gupta mentioned that now the supply chain is very volatile, and gone are the days ''when we used to say the world will be stable, so let's plan for a very efficient supply''. ''It is not a question of efficiency of supply chain, it is a question of business continuity and keeping the trade going,'' he said. He also said that sustainability should be at the core of the business, and it should not be treated as a cost-plus exercise. Speaking at the event, IKEA Supply South Asia managing director Linn Roslund said collaboration is important to solve the supply chain-related problems. ''To manage risks, we diversify across the globe,'' she added. Asian Development Bank trade and supply chain division director Steven Beck said ADB was known for its work in infrastructure, and it is an important part of our mandate. ''There is clearly a role for multilateral agencies to work with companies,'' he added. Sagar Kadu, director logistics in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said, ''Over the decade, we have gone from linear supply chains to so much fragile and inter connected supply chain and it is adding cost efficiency.'' Kadu said there is a need to make our firms stronger as nations do not trade, firms trade.
