Amazon's Cloud Challenges in the Middle East
Amazon faces a lengthy restoration of its cloud services in Bahrain and the UAE following Iranian drone strikes in March. The disruption has impacted AWS's operations, affecting various services and customers including Netflix and BMW, leading to a temporary suspension of billing operations in the region.
Amazon announced on Thursday that it expects cloud computing operations restoration in Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates to take several months. The disruption followed Iranian drone attacks in March, which significantly affected AWS's services in the Middle East.
In response, Amazon Web Services advised its users to transfer all accessible resources to other regions immediately and recover inaccessible resources from remote backups. An Amazon spokesperson confirmed the issues stemmed from the March incidents. AWS, the largest global cloud service provider, serves leading companies like Netflix, BMW, and Pfizer.
As of late April, the AWS status page indicated that 31 services in Bahrain and the UAE remain disrupted. Some of these issues have persisted since early March. Consequently, the company temporarily halted billing operations in these regions to manage the situation.
