Delhi Unveils New Borewell Policy to Combat Water Scarcity

The Delhi government is set to introduce a new borewell policy aimed at tackling water scarcity in the national capital, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta revealed on Friday. Speaking at the 'Catch the Rain' event organized by the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), Gupta emphasized the need for effective water management strategies.

The proposed policy mandates that only residential colonies with adequate water harvesting systems will qualify for authorized borewells. This initiative is part of a broader effort to instill the importance of water conservation among Delhi residents, Gupta stressed.

In a bid to promote rainwater harvesting, the government is offering incentives such as subsidies up to ₹50,000, water bill discounts, and free technical support. Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh underscored the importance of implementing rainwater harvesting systems in government buildings, warning of penalties for non-compliance.
