Goa's Eco-Sensitive Zones: Balancing Development and Environment

In a significant move, the Goa government has tightened regulations concerning construction in eco-sensitive zones, such as riverbanks, permitting development strictly on a 'need-based' premise to preserve its fragile environment.
During a press meeting, TCP Minister Vishwajit Rane highlighted Goa's limited developable land, stressing the decision to prohibit construction in zones designated as no-development by TCP and forest departments.
Earlier demarcations by the previous Regional Plan 2021 faced criticism for rezoning excessive land areas for development. Current efforts aim to correct these decisions, with legal repercussions for officials who misclassified eco-sensitive areas.
