A severe storm claimed the lives of four school teachers in Himachal's Kullu district when a massive pine tree collapsed onto their vehicle on Saturday. The tragedy, which left three others with serious injuries, unfolded in the Ani subdivision, known for intense pre-monsoon winds.
The vehicle, carrying six female teachers and a driver, was returning from school when the calamity struck around 5 pm. A violent gust snapped the tree, sending it crashing down and hurling both the tree and vehicle into a gorge. Local residents and police officers conducted rescue operations, despite being impeded by the storm and rain.
The deceased, all women from nearby areas, have been identified, and further investigations are underway. In response, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed deep sorrow and has instructed the district administration to support the families and provide medical care to the injured.
