The Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) in Maharashtra's Chandrapur district unveiled vibrant wildlife statistics during its annual 'Machan Census on Waterholes'. Volunteers and wildlife enthusiasts recorded a total of 5,765 sightings, including 42 tigers, indicating a thriving ecosystem.
The census was executed on Buddha Purnima, chosen for its full moon's enhanced visibility. This annual event witnessed the participation of 210 volunteers who documented the wildlife gathered around waterholes, primarily during peak summer months, underscoring the reserve's ecological richness.
TATR Field Director Prabhu Nath Shukla confirmed the statistics, highlighting a healthy prey-predator balance, with herbivores leading at 3,089 sightings. The data also included observations of 209 mega carnivores, featuring tigers and leopards, further affirming the reserve's environmental vitality.
