Delhi's MCD Allocates Rs 48 Crore for Enhanced Waste Management

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has announced an allocation of Rs 48 crore for enhancing waste and sanitation management across several zones in the city for the fiscal year 2026-27. This decision, officially documented in an order issued on April 27, received the approval of the MCD Commissioner.

The substantial budget will be utilized for a spectrum of sanitation tasks, such as employing vehicles, machinery, and personnel dedicated to garbage collection, lifting, and transportation, especially in challenging conditions faced by various wards. Specifically, the West Zone will see the hiring of 50 light motor vehicles equipped with auto-tipping and an additional 30 medium motor vehicles.

The order highlights that similar measures will be implemented in Shahdara (South), Central, Shahdara (North), and other zones, with special attention to garbage-prone areas. Officials noted that MCD gathers 13,000 metric tons of garbage daily, exceeding 15,000 tons during cleanliness drives. The zones have been given permission to invite tenders following administrative approvals and cost assessments.
