A significant boulder tumble in Nainital's Tallital area resulted in the destruction of a parked car, leading to the emergency evacuation of 25 families. The incident happened in the Krishnapur area on Monday evening, as confirmed by officials.
While the massive rock crushed the vehicle, smaller stones caused a scooter and a motorcycle to fall into a nearby gorge. Fortunately, no casualties occurred as the area was vacant during the event. Residents reported that the boulder narrowly avoided hitting multiple houses further downhill.
Local resident Anil Singh Rawat suggested that nearby construction may have loosened the boulder. Approximately 4,000 families reside in the area, with school children often traversing the affected path. The administration has provided a temporary safe haven, supervised by Tehsildar Akshay Bhatt, until the situation is resolved, stated Nainital Sub-Divisional Magistrate Nawazish Khalik.
