Sindhudurg's Maritime Future: A New Hub for Shipbuilding

During a review meeting, Maharashtra's Fisheries and Ports Minister, Nitesh Rane, emphasized the potential of Sindhudurg for maritime development. With its proximity to Goa and favorable conditions, Sindhudurg has been highlighted for shipbuilding projects.
The minister directed officials to carry out detailed surveys and infrastructure planning for proposed shipbuilding sites at Nandgaon, Dighi, and Vijaydurg. These sites were evaluated for their sea depth, geological conditions, and connectivity to future industrial opportunities.
Preliminary layouts for the sites have been prepared, considering the limited land availability along the coast. Plans may involve developing through sea reclamation. The technical presentation revealed Nandgaon's strategic importance due to its connectivity, despite challenges like sedimentary formations and environmental clearances.
