Fuel Economy Initiative: Chandigarh's Move Towards A Sustainable Future

In an effort to embrace sustainable practices, Chandigarh Administrator and Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria has taken a significant step. He has directed officials in the Union Territory to refrain from using four-wheel vehicles once a week.

This move is a direct response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for austerity and a reduction in reliance on fuel-driven vehicles. On Wednesdays, officials are encouraged to opt for bicycles, public transport, or walking.

The initiative is not limited to officials. Plans are also underway to encourage students to avoid motor vehicles and choose eco-friendly transportation methods instead. This concerted effort underscores a larger goal of curbing fuel use without impacting capital expenditure, welfare spending, or subsidies, aligning with Modi's broader economic strategy.
