Former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda has voiced strong opposition against the proposed Bidadi Township project in Karnataka, criticizing it for allegedly grabbing farmers' lands for profit. Gowda's remarks specifically targeted Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, accusing him of ignoring farmer protests in favor of business interests.
The Bidadi Township is a sprawling Rs 18,133 crore initiative spanning approximately 7,481 acres across nine villages in the Bengaluru South district. Approved during an April Cabinet meeting, the project has drawn significant local opposition, with many farmers and villagers resisting land acquisitions deemed exploitative.
Despite calls from Gowda and others to withdraw the project, the current administration, led by CM Siddaramaiah, persists in its development plans. Gowda urges Siddaramaiah to recognize the plight of farmers and reconsiders the township's implementation, promising to combat unlawful land acquisitions.
