Odisha Scorched: Heatwaves Hit 16 Towns
Odisha experienced severe heatwave conditions with temperatures crossing 40°C in 16 towns. Jharsuguda recorded the highest temperature at 43.4°C. The IMD predicted that the hot and humid conditions would persist, with temperatures expected to rise further. Thunderstorms may occur in some districts on Tuesday.

Odisha is grappling with an intense heatwave as temperatures soared above 40 degrees Celsius in 16 towns across the state on Monday. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that Jharsuguda topped the charts with a blistering 43.4 degrees Celsius, setting a record for the state.
Boudh town in western Odisha followed closely with 42.8 degrees Celsius, while Angul and Sambalpur also recorded sweltering temperatures of 42.3 degrees Celsius. Other towns like Hirakud, Baripada, and Nayagarh did not lag far behind, with temperatures hovering around the 41-42 degrees Celsius mark.
The IMD forecasts that these scorching levels will persist over the next few days, with temperatures climbing by 2-3 degrees Celsius. Additionally, some districts might experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds on Tuesday.
