One person died and another was critically injured after being caught in a landslide near Sonprayag on the Kedarnath pilgrimage route in Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag district, police said on Saturday.
According to the police, the incident occurred on Friday on the road connecting Sonprayag to Gaurikund. Near the Hanuman Temple in Sonprayag, a section of the hillside suddenly broke away and crashed onto the road. One individual caught in the debris died on the spot, while another sustained severe injuries.
Rudraprayag SP Niharika Tomar visited the accident site and surrounding areas on Saturday and issued directives to the police personnel deployed there to perform their duties with sensitivity and vigilance.
The victims of the accident have not yet been identified. However, preliminary reports suggest that among the deceased and the injured, one individual is a local resident, while the other is believed to be of Nepali origin.
