CM Rekha Gupta takes Metro, DTC bus under 'Metro Monday' initiative

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta and other Delhi ministers travelled by Metro and bus on Monday as part of the 'Metro Monday' initiative aimed at saving fuel and promoting public transport use.

The chief minister began her journey from her residence on Raj Niwas Marg and travelled to the nearest Metro to ITO metro station. From there she boarded a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus to reach the Delhi Secretariat.

Speaker Vijender Gupta also used the metro to travel from his residence at Tilak Marg to the Delhi Assembly, while PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh rode a bicycle to attend a meeting at the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC).

Beginning his journey from the Supreme Court Metro Station, the speaker interacted with commuters and highlighted the importance of adopting eco-friendly modes of travel in daily life.

''Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for fuel conservation, the initiative encourages citizens to use public transport and save fuel. The initiative also aims to promote sustainable urban mobility, reduce traffic congestion, and strengthen public participation in environmentally responsible practices,'' he said in a statement.

During his journey, the speaker changed trains at Rajiv Chowk Metro Station and proceeded towards Vidhan Sabha Metro Station before reaching the Delhi Legislative Assembly.

The PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh cycled from his residence in Central Delhi to the NDMC headquarters, Palika Kendra on Sansad Marg, where he attended a council meeting.

''On Mondays, all officials, officers, the chief minister, and ministers will utilise public transport. Since the NDMC office is located near my home and I had a meeting, I arrived by bicycle. The more fuel we save, the better it is.''.

The initiative is part of a wider fuel-saving campaign launched by the Delhi government following Prime Minister Modi's appeal for energy conservation amid global fuel uncertainties and tensions in West Asia.
