Delhi Faces Continued Water Scarcity Despite Haryana's Yamuna Release
Despite Haryana releasing water into the Yamuna, Delhi's water supply remains strained as the Wazirabad barrage levels stay low, impacting North, West, and South Delhi.

Water shortages persist in Delhi even after Haryana released water from the Yamuna, as the Wazirabad barrage's water level hovers around a critical 669.5 feet, significantly below the normal 674.5 feet. This ongoing situation affects water supply in various parts of the national capital.
Although Haryana government released 979.5 cusecs of water through the Carrier Line Canal and Delhi sub-branch, Delhi Jal Board (DJB) officials report that the water has not yet reached a level to resolve the shortages. "We still require water in the Wazirabad pond via the Yamuna river," a senior DJB official stated, noting it may take days for the water to reach the treatment plants.
Negotiations continue between Delhi and Haryana to enhance raw water supply, but until levels stabilize, the key treatment plants at Wazirabad and Chandrawal are operating below capacity, diminishing North, West, and South Delhi's water service.
The water treatment facilities have seen a 25-30% decrease in production, affecting areas like Civil Lines, Kamla Nagar, and Karol Bagh. The DJB has not announced a timeline for resolution as approximately 70-100 million gallons daily of water production remain reduced.
