The Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025, originally planned for May 24 at Bengaluru's Sree Kanteerava Stadium, has been postponed indefinitely due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. Organizers prioritized the safety of athletes and the community in their decision, following careful consultation.
The postponement comes in the aftermath of a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, where 26 tourists were killed. In response, the Indian Armed Forces launched 'Operation Sindoor,' targeting terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan retaliated, and the Indian Army successfully countered multiple drone incursions along the western border on the night of May 8-9.
Neeraj Chopra, expressing solidarity with the nation, emphasized the importance of unity in these challenging times. He assured that a revised schedule for the NC Classic would be announced. Meanwhile, the Indian Premier League's 18th edition has also been suspended amidst the tensions. Neeraj addressed criticism for inviting Pakistani athlete Arshad Nadeem, clarifying it was a gesture of sportsmanship.
