In a significant move to nurture holistic development, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has directed that students participating in national and international sports competitions should be marked present during their representation of India. This decision aims to integrate sports with academics, fostering well-rounded individuals who excel in both arenas.
Addressing a longstanding issue, the Chief Minister highlighted the absence of special leave provisions for students participating in events organized by various sports bodies. This lack of provisions negatively impacted their attendance and assessments. The state has now mandated that participation certificates from recognized sports bodies will serve as proof, ensuring such students receive 'special leave' in school registers.
In a parallel effort to honor athletes' achievements, the state government awarded cash prizes totaling Rs. 14.77 crore to 21 international medal winners. Notable among the recipients is Paralympian Nishad Kumar, who received Rs. 7.80 crore. Additionally, significant funds have been allocated for athlete welfare, including diet and travel support, alongside plans for a new international-level sports stadium in Hamirpur. These initiatives emphasize the state's commitment to sports as a priority, supporting athletes throughout their journey, and enhancing training infrastructure.
