In an electrifying atmosphere, 640 youthful pugilists are set to showcase their prowess at the 6th Junior (U-17) Boys and Girls National Boxing Championships, kicking off at the National Boxing Academy in Rohtak, Haryana. The competitions, which run from Thursday, feature 13 weight categories each for boys and girls, spanning from 44-46 kg to over 80 kg.

The Services Sports Control Board aims to defend its title while Haryana enters as the reigning champion in the girls' category. Boxing Federation of India President-Chairperson, Interim Committee, Ajay Singh, emphasized the championship's essential role in nurturing future boxing stars. With the Asian Youth Games approaching, the competition is a strategic step in preparing athletes for international challenges.

Eligible participants include gold and silver medallists from the REC Combined Talent Hunt, provided they meet the age criteria. Adhering to World Boxing Technical Rules, each bout includes three rounds of two minutes, with one-minute rests. India's junior boxing scene, bolstered by 43 medals at recent Asian Championships, underscores the nation's growing prominence on the global stage.
