As India prepares for a critical Test series against England in Leeds, opening June 20, Shubman Gill has confirmed his new role batting at the number four position. The spot, once dominated by legends like Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar, is crucial in the Indian lineup.

Gill, recognized for his technical skills and poise, expresses readiness to advance the number four spot's legacy. He stated, 'After Virat retired, GG and I discussed, and he suggested I take on the role. I was eager for the challenge.' Gill's performance is critical as India confronts England's potent bowlers, especially on foreign soil.

While impressive at number three with remarkable homegrown stats, Gill struggled overseas, scoring 212 runs in seven matches. His new position carries the immense responsibility of meeting high expectations. Meanwhile, vice-captain Rishabh Pant remains at number five, supporting the freshly appointed captain Gill throughout the series.
