Monika's journey from a flood-ravaged village in Bihar to the heights of Kho Kho success is a testament to resilience and grit. Growing up in Gopalpur, Bhagalpur, societal and natural challenges once dictated her future, with expectations of an early marriage and limited education restricting her horizon.
But a relocation to Delhi in 2006, driven by her parents' pursuit of a better life, changed her destiny. At MCD School in Shakurpur, an athletic competition unveiled her sporting talent. Encouraged by her physical education teacher to pursue Kho Kho, Monika embraced the game, defying pressures to conform to societal norms and pushing past financial hardships.
Her tenacity paid off. Representing Delhi at the Sub-Junior Nationals in 2010 and later at the Senior Nationals, Monika's prowess earned her a spot on the Indian national team. She contributed to India's victory in the inaugural Kho Kho World Cup in 2024. Today, she stands as a beacon of hope for many, leveraging her experience to nurture new talent and promote Kho Kho.
