In a strategic move to bolster India's bowling lineup, former captain Mohammad Azharuddin has advocated for the inclusion of left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav in the upcoming Edgbaston Test against England. Azharuddin believes Yadav's experience could alleviate the pressure on pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who was heavily relied upon during India's recent loss at Leeds.
As India gears up for the second Test in Birmingham starting July 2, the pitch conditions, expected to be dry, may favor Kuldeep. The Indian team's batting performance saw initial strength, with Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Rishabh Pant hitting centuries in the first innings. However, collapses in the second innings undermined their efforts, highlighting the need for strategic team changes.
Azharuddin also came to the defense of new Test captain Shubman Gill, emphasizing the importance of giving Gill time to establish his leadership. Reflecting on his own tenure, Azharuddin stressed the necessity of patience and support as Gill navigates the challenges of captaincy, urging critics to afford the young leader a fair opportunity to shine.
