The World Super Kabaddi League (WSKL) and Uttar Pradesh Kabaddi League (UPKL) have unveiled plans for their inaugural season, marking a significant milestone in the effort to globalize Kabaddi. The debut tournament is slated for February-March 2026 and will be held in Dubai, chosen for its strategic value in maximizing international exposure and fan accessibility. With active participation from nearly 30 countries and formal backing from 20 national federations, WSKL is poised to elevate the sport on a global stage.
Following UPKL's success in fostering Indian talent under the slogan 'Apna Bharat, Apna Khel,' WSKL emerges as a new frontier with a mission to internationalize Kabaddi and eventually gain Olympic inclusion. The league, supported by the International Kabaddi Federation, shifts focus from the India-centric approach to a global audience and runs on a franchise-based model featuring eight teams, each blending international athletes with homegrown talent. This initiative underscores a commitment to a truly global Kabaddi ecosystem.
SJ Uplift Kabaddi Pvt Ltd, founded by Sambhav Jain, fully owns and operates WSKL, signaling a vision to modernize and expand Kabaddi's reach. Jain emphasized the league's ambitious goals for international recognition, player development, and Olympic aspirations. With a player purse of ₹48 crore across franchises and interest from strong Kabaddi nations like South Korea, Iran, and the United States, WSKL aims to evolve beyond a seasonal tournament, fostering year-round engagement and long-term growth.
