Naomi Osaka, a four-time Grand Slam champion, advances to the second round of Wimbledon after a challenging match against qualifier Talia Gibson, winning 6-4, 7-6(4). Despite her struggles on grass courts, Osaka exhibited resilience and skill to overcome the Australian newcomer in a tense and competitive match.

In an intense first-round match at Wimbledon, Japan's Naomi Osaka overcame Australian qualifier Talia Gibson with a hard-fought victory, 6-4, 7-6(4). The four-time Grand Slam champion displayed her prowess on the court despite not having advanced past the third round at the grasscourt major before.
Osaka had to battle her way back in both sets, showcasing her determination and skill against a spirited Gibson who took an early lead. Yet, the former world number one found her rhythm, breaking back to level the play before clinching the set as Gibson faltered.
This win comes after Osaka's inconsistent form following her maternity break, with highlights including reaching the third round of the Australian Open and the fourth round in Miami and Rome. To progress further, she must now prepare to face Katerina Siniakova or Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen in the second round.
