India's Paralympic double gold medalist javelin thrower Sumit Antil has lauded Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra's recent feat of crossing the 90-meter mark, expressing optimism that a 95-meter throw is within reach. Antil credited world record holder coach Jan Zelezny for Chopra's continued success, as the athlete achieved a 90.23-meter throw during the Doha Diamond League in May.
In an interview with ANI, made possible by Sun Pharma's #SecondBirthDate initiative, Antil revealed candid conversations with Chopra, lauding him as "the most consistent" athlete he has observed. They regularly discuss goals and targets, with Antil expressing confidence in Chopra's potential to consistently exceed 90 meters, inspired by his remarkable journey and the guidance of his coach, whom Antil calls the "god of javelin throw."
Chopra's trajectory in 2025 cements his status as a top contender. Starting with a victory at South Africa's Potch Invitational, he moved on to place second in Doha, crossing 90 meters for the first time. Continuing his streak, he reclaimed the top spot in world rankings, previously held by Grenada's Anderson Peters, with a string of strong showings. Neeraj is set to compete in the Neeraj Chopra Classic event in Bengaluru on July 5.
