The United States advanced to the CONCACAF Gold Cup final, triumphing over Guatemala with a 2-1 victory at Energizer Park in St. Louis on Wednesday. The victory was powered by a spectacular first-half performance from Diego Luna.
Luna opened the scoring just four minutes in, swiftly converting a rebound after Guatemala's goalkeeper, Kenderson Navarro, deflected a shot from Luca de la Torre into Luna's path. The U.S. midfielder doubled the lead in the 15th minute with a powerful low shot from just outside the box, following a display of agile footwork.
Despite an intensified effort by Guatemala, Olger Escobar managed to score a consolation goal in the 80th minute with a precise strike past U.S. goalkeeper Matt Freese. However, the Guatemalan side could not find an equalizer, leaving the U.S. to celebrate their advancement to the final.
