In a thrilling opening match of the three-match ODI series, Sri Lankan spinners Wanindu Hasaranga and Kamindu Mendis orchestrated a spectacular collapse against Bangladesh, propelling the hosts to a 77-run triumph. The duo's exceptional form saw Bangladesh skid from a strong 100/1 to a meager 167 all out, much to the delight of the Colombo crowd.

Bangladesh, chasing Sri Lanka's competitive 244, seemed in control until a staggering turnaround in the 17th over. Tanzid Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto had laid a solid foundation, but once Shanto fell, wickets tumbled alarmingly fast. The seven-wicket collapse was among the most catastrophic in men's ODI history.

After the defeat, Bangladesh's Taskin Ahmed was left in disbelief at the sudden downturn. Reflecting on the match, Ahmed emphasized the unpredictability of cricket, expressing hope for a stronger comeback in the subsequent match. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka's Charith Asalanka, who delivered a vital 106-run knock, praised his team's fielding and resilience.
