Olympian and former chief coach of the Indian Shooting team, Suma Shirur, has been awarded the prestigious SJAM Lifetime Achievement Award 2025. The recognition was presented by the Sports Journalists' Association of Mumbai at the illustrious Bombay Gymkhana on World Sports Journalists Day. Suma Shirur shared the stage with fellow shooting icons Deepali Deshpande and Anjali Bhagwat.

The award pays tribute to Shirur's significant contributions to Indian shooting, highlighting her journey from being the second Indian woman shooter in an Olympic final to leading the Indian team to success at the Paris Olympics and Paralympics. This accolade stands out as a cherished honor in the sports community, previously bestowed upon cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar in 2016.

In her acceptance speech, Shirur expressed gratitude to the Sports Journalists' Association of Mumbai and acknowledged her peers. Beyond coaching, she champions gender equity and grassroots sports engagement. Through her Lakshya Shooting Club, Shirur has trained over 200 national athletes, including Olympians and world champions, earning the Best Coach of the Year award at the Indian Sports Honours 2024.
