Josh Taylor Bows Out: A Boxing Legend Retires Due to Medical Advice

Scottish boxing great Josh Taylor, who made history as the undisputed light-welterweight champion, has announced his retirement from the sport. The 34-year-old cited medical advice regarding an eye condition as the reason for this decision, believing it could jeopardize his eyesight if he continued.

Taylor gained global recognition by clinching all four major belts in the 140-pound division with a landmark victory over Jose Ramirez in 2021. Despite successfully defending his title against Jack Catterall, Taylor faced a string of losses, the most recent being against Ekbow Essuman, leading to his decision to step away from boxing.

A decorated athlete, Taylor represented Great Britain at the 2012 Olympics and claimed a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games the following year. In his farewell message, shared via Instagram, Taylor expressed gratitude to his supporters and reflected on his journey from a humble background in Prestonpans to the pinnacle of professional boxing.
