The Association of Indian Universities (AIU) has suspended its joint secretary, Baljit Singh Sekhon, amid allegations of mismanagement at the World University Games in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany. An investigation panel has been set up after six athletes were barred from competition due to administrative errors.
The controversy erupted as the Indian badminton squad was initially unable to compete fully because officials failed to submit the correct participant list. However, following negotiations with FISU, the international university sports body, all Indian athletes were awarded medals and certificates.
The inquiry panel, led by Anil Kumar Kalkal, is tasked with uncovering the details of the incident and has been given 15 days to submit its findings. Observers from the Sports Ministry noted the need for a federation dedicated to university sports management to prevent future occurrences.
