The All India Football Federation (AIFF) President, Kalyan Chaubey, hailed the National Sports Governance Bill 2025, introduced in Parliament. This new legislation aims to significantly relax age constraints for athletes while promoting sports development and athlete welfare.
Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya introduced the bill amid clamorous debates in Lok Sabha. The legislation seeks to establish a National Olympic Committee, National Paralympic Committee, as well as national and regional sports federations for each designated sport, marking a structured approach to sports governance in India.
The bill mandates that these committees and federations should have international recognition and affiliation. Furthermore, it proposes the creation of a National Sports Board and a National Sports Tribunal to expedite sports-related disputes, ensuring efficient and effective governance.
