In a display of sheer resilience, Rishabh Pant captivated fans and critics alike by matching legendary cricketer Virender Sehwag's record for the most sixes by an Indian in Test cricket, both now holding 90 sixes. This milestone was achieved despite Pant's visibly painful condition during the second day of the Manchester Test against England.
Known for his audacious strokeplay, Pant has ascended to the top alongside Sehwag, with Indian captain Rohit Sharma closing in with 88 sixes. Additionally, Pant has become India's highest run-scorer in the World Test Championship (WTC) era, surpassing Sharma with 2731 runs in just 38 matches, including six centuries and sixteen fifties.
Pant's determination shone through as he took to the field on Thursday, emphasizing his grit after a severe toe injury on Day 1. Achieving 54 runs off 75 balls, Pant surpassed MS Dhoni in fifty-plus scores with fourteen to his former captain's thirteen. The Board of Control for Cricket in India confirmed Pant would refrain from keeping wickets but remains available to bat if necessary.
