Barcelona's starting goalkeeper, Marc-André ter Stegen, is scheduled to undergo additional back surgery next week, sidelining him for approximately three months, the club announced Thursday.
Despite feeling physically robust, Ter Stegen has been hindered by ongoing pain due to lower back issues, necessitating the procedure for a complete recovery. The 33-year-old has previously endured long periods away from the pitch, including nearly an entire season lost to a knee tendon rupture and another back operation in 2023.
Barcelona has added Espanyol's Joan García to bolster their lineup during Ter Stegen's absence. The club's reserve keeper last season was Iñaki Peña, stepping up as the seasoned German battles his latest setback.
