President Droupadi Murmu commended Divya Deshmukh for achieving a historic milestone as the first Indian woman to win the FIDE Women's World Cup. Deshmukh triumphed in the 2025 edition, overcoming India's star Koneru Humpy with a 2.5-1.5 score in tiebreaks held in Batumi.

President Murmu expressed her congratulations via social media, highlighting Deshmukh's remarkable accomplishment at just 19 years of age. With this victory, Deshmukh not only earned the prestigious World Cup title but also met the requirements for her final Grandmaster norm, becoming India's 88th Grandmaster.

President Murmu also acknowledged Humpy's efforts as the runner-up, emphasizing the strength of Indian talent, particularly among women in chess. Former World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand praised Deshmukh's triumph and her new Grandmaster status. The event saw Deshmukh secure gold, Humpy earn silver, and China's Tan Zhongyi take bronze.
