Asian Games gold medallist and 3000m steeplechase runner Avinash Sable has been dealt a significant blow following surgery for an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. The injury was sustained during the Monaco Diamond League event earlier this month.

The 30-year-old athlete, who was expected to compete in the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo this September, is now ruled out due to the surgery. Sable, who clinched gold at the Hangzhou Asian Games, underwent surgery in Mumbai under the supervision of renowned surgeon Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala.

In a social media statement, Sable expressed gratitude for the medical care he received and determination to return stronger. Despite previous injuries, including a calf issue, Sable met the entry requirements for the World Championships during the Paris Olympics. However, this recent setback will delay his return to action until 2024.
