India's batting coach Sitanshu Kotak has expressed confidence in Dhruv Jurel's abilities as he prepares for a significant role in the fifth and final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at The Oval, London, starting Thursday. With vice-captain Rishabh Pant out due to a broken right foot, Jurel is set to keep wickets.
The 24-year-old has previously substituted for Pant, stepping in during the third Test at Lord's and again in Manchester. Kotak highlighted Jurel's potential and dedication, stating, "Dhruv is an outstanding talent. He is a very good keeper and a capable batsman who has been preparing diligently." Despite his limited game time in England, Jurel's behind-the-scenes efforts have not gone unnoticed.
Jurel had faced criticism for the number of byes conceded in the third Test, a challenging task due to uneven bounce, according to Kotak. However, the coach assured that Jurel's skills and preparation are robust. Jurel's recent form, including three consecutive fifty-plus scores against England Lions for India A, reinforces his readiness for the significant Test challenge.
