Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen successfully underwent back surgery on Tuesday, the club has announced.

While Barcelona did not provide a specific timeline for his return, Ter Stegen previously estimated a recovery period of about three months. The surgery was needed to resolve persistent lower back issues.

The 33-year-old missed much of last season due to a knee tendon rupture and also sat out two months in 2023 following another back surgery. Recently, Barcelona added Espanyol's Joan García to the squad as Iñaki Peña served as the reserve goalkeeper last season.
