England's Test captain, Ben Stokes, will be absent from the decisive fifth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at The Oval following a shoulder injury, a loss that will be keenly felt by the home side. Stokes has been instrumental in England's efforts throughout the series, showing prowess both with the bat and ball under pressure. Across the four matches, he has scored 304 runs at an impressive average of 43.42 and taken 17 wickets, marking him as England's most effective bowler. His contributions earned him Player of the Match honors in both the third and fourth Tests.

During a pre-match press conference, Stokes addressed discussions around his injury and potential workload management. "No, not at all. When I'm out on the field, I play to win. I give absolutely everything that I possibly can," Stokes stated firmly. He continued, "If there's a moment in the game where I need to put everything aside, I'll do that because of my commitment to the team, to England, and to winning." In Manchester, Stokes played a crucial innings of 141 and took six wickets, including a five-wicket haul that dismantled India's batting line-up.

Although his absence at The Oval poses a challenge for England, Stokes remains philosophical about the injury risks inherent in professional sports. "There's nothing I could have done to prevent this. As a professional sportsman, injuries are part of the game, and I can't do anything about them," he remarked. England now prepares to face the final Test without their captain, as Ollie Pope steps in to lead. The team will include all-rounder Jacob Bethell, who will contribute both with the bat—batting at number six—and as a spin option alongside Joe Root. Also not playing are spinner Liam Dawson, and pace bowlers Jofra Archer and Brydon Carse. Surrey's Gus Atkinson and Jamie Overton, along with Nottinghamshire's Josh Tongue, have been added to the squad. (ANI)
