The much-anticipated 15th edition of the Hockey India Junior Women National Championship is set to commence this Friday, attracting competitors from 30 teams across the nation. The tournament, which concludes on August 12, has introduced a new division-based format aimed at enhancing competition dynamics.
The competition framework divides teams into three categories—A, B, and C. In a bid to maintain fierce competition, the two lowest-ranked teams from Divisions A and B face relegation to lower categories. Conversely, the top-performing teams in Divisions B and C will earn promotions to higher divisions for the next tournament year.
Division A, containing the top 12 national teams, boasts past champions and runners-up such as Hockey Jharkhand and Hockey Madhya Pradesh. Meanwhile, Divisions B and C include teams striving to climb the competitive ladder. Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey expressed confidence in the new format, following its success in senior and sub-junior levels.
