On Day 1 of the fifth Test between India and England at The Oval, India's batting faced a tough day as they ended at 204 for six wickets in 64 overs. Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed lbw by Gus Atkinson after scoring just 2 runs.
While KL Rahul was bowled by Chris Woakes at 14, Sai Sudharsan managed to score 38 before being caught by Smith off Josh Tongue's delivery. Shubman Gill, run out after contributing 21, and Ravindra Jadeja, dismissed for 9, added to the team's early worries.
However, Karun Nair's unbeaten 52 gave India a much-needed respite, with Washington Sundar supporting him at 19 not out. England's bowlers, Atkinson and Tongue, were in top form, securing two wickets each, while Woakes picked one. Extras bolstered India's total with 30 runs.
