Joakim Alexandersson, head coach of the Indian U20 women's team, revealed the 23-member squad that will compete in the AFC U20 Women's Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers. These crucial matches are scheduled to be held in Myanmar from August 6 to August 10, 2025, according to an AIFF press release.
The squad, known as the Young Tigresses, has been placed in Group D and will kick off their campaign against Indonesia on August 6. They will then face off against Turkmenistan on August 8 before concluding the group stage against hosts Myanmar on August 10 at Yangon's Thuwunna Stadium. Success in the group, either by winning it or being one of the three best second-placed teams out of all groups, will secure them a spot in the AFC U20 Women's Asian Cup in Thailand scheduled for April next year.
The team has been rigorously preparing for the tournament at the Padukone-Dravid Centre for Sports Excellence in Bengaluru. They've also boosted their morale with two friendly matches against Uzbekistan U20, which ended with a 1-1 draw and a 4-1 victory. The squad will depart for Myanmar on Thursday night and arrive on the morning of August 1, primed for their first fixture five days later.
