England's pace sensation Gus Atkinson dazzled the cricketing world with his fourth five-wicket haul at his beloved home ground, The Oval, during the decisive Test against India. His outstanding figures of 5/33 in 21.4 overs notched up the second-best by a pacer at this historic venue.

Atkinson's impressive display featured key wickets, including Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, Washington Sundar, Mohammed Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna. The only performance surpassing his was Gubby Allen's legendary 7/80 back in 1936. With 13 Tests under his belt, Atkinson now boasts 60 wickets at an average of 21.00, with his career-best of 7/45 achieved at Lord's on his debut, coinciding with James Anderson's memorable farewell.

England's decision to bat first was vindicated when they reduced India to 153/6. The only highlight for India was a 58-run stand between Karun Nair and Washington Sundar. India ultimately succumbed for 224 runs. England, in response, capitalized with a strong start, reaching 109/1 by the end of the first session, thanks to a powerful 92-run opening partnership spearheaded by Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett.
