World champion sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson was arrested for domestic violence at Seattle's airport ahead of the US Track & Field Championships. The altercation involved Richardson allegedly pushing a male companion who fell into a column. Olympic silver medalist and reigning world 100m champion Sha'Carri Richardson was taken into custody for domestic violence at the Seattle airport, USA TODAY Sports reported. This incident occurred just days before the start of the US Track & Field Championships.
According to a police report, Richardson, 25, allegedly shoved her male companion during an argument, causing him to fall into a nearby column. The arrest took place on July 27, with her release following the next day. US Track & Field has acknowledged the reports but refrained from commenting, while Reuters has reached out to the Port of Seattle Police and Richardson's agent for further details.
Following her arrest, Richardson withdrew from the 100-meter semi-finals in Eugene, Oregon, despite competing in the initial heats. However, she is still set to compete in the world championships in September, thanks to her victory in Budapest in 2023.
